Lakeview Christian School is hosting a Poetry Out Loud school competition that is open to any students grades 8-12 enrolled in Lakeview Christian School or participating in home school classes at Lakeview.
Poetry Out Loud is a national competitive program aimed at helping students learn to appreciate poetry and to memorize and recite poems chosen from their anthology. Winners of the school contest advance to the regional level.
For rules, memorization and recitation tips, and the anthology of eligible poems, visit poetryoutloud.org. There is also an original poem component to the Alabama contest which is not mentioned on the website. In this category, students recite a poem they have written. The poems must be at least 14 lines long.
The Lakeview school contest is Monday, Sept. 24, at 3:15 in N107 (the choir room). Each contestant will recite one poem chosen from the POL anthology, or an original poem. A student may participate in either or both categories.
Students planning to participate in the Lakeview event need to contact Deborah Stabler at firstname.lastname@example.org by Sept. 20 with your name, grade, whether you are competing in the anthology or original category, and the title of your poem.
